Although many homeowners are terrified they will severely damage or kill their plant, pruning a Weigela bush is not difficult.
Here are the tools needed to prune your Weigela:

How to prune Weigela
The following picture shows a Pink Weigela bush that is in sore need of pruning.
Take a look at the overall plant and imagine it in a more rounded and beautiful form. This picture shows the same bush with my imaginary form:
I won’t be pruning the bush to the exact round shape, but it gives me an idea as to where the pruning needs to be done.
Now take a deep breath and grab the shears and start to prune the bush toward the imaginary shape. Go slowly and step back often to get a good view of the bush as you prune. Take small cuts; you can always remove more, but it is impossible to add more!
Here is the bush in the final form:
Notice that it isn’t in the perfect circle shape I had imagined, but it is much more pleasing to look at. I could have removed more to make it more circular, but decided to let the Weigela fill out a bit more, then prune it into a more round shape.
